My Year of Karlie Kloss

I know, I know. I’m late on the bandwagon that is Karlie Kloss, as she was already named by Vogue as the model of 2010, but I wasn’t convinced. There was something about how quickly it happened that it made me very skeptical of what it was that she had that allowed her to enchant the entire fashion world in one year.
Being from her hometown, St. Louis, Missouri, I was aware of who she was and kept an eye out for her career when she made the big jump from Midwest city to the fashion capital. I wouldn’t deny it then that her face was absolutely stunning and I didn’t see that ‘look’ anywhere on the runways or the covers of magazines at that moment. Karlie’s look could easily be transformed to sweet girl next door on the cover of Teen Vogue to being dark with an edge of punk on Numero. But it would take me several months later to see what everyone else was so excited about, and it wasn’t just her beauty but her presence.
It was during my personal hiatus from blogging that my love for Karlie grew. Though I had no time to blog because of the stress of college applications and just being a first semester senior, I actually had more time to observe and look at runway shows and photo shoots. Before I was just looking at everything superficially and not giving myself time to really look at something before harshly criticizing it. It was when I gave myself time to not just seeing with my eyes, but really feel the meaning of the shows and shoots, I saw what everyone else saw a year prior. I admit that I love seeing Ms. Kloss on the runways the most because that when you get a sense of who she is, but I can’t deny that she really knows how to slay a photo shoot. So, I have to say that I love her too and some of the pictures that are below are some recent pictures that make her love her more and more. Can’t wait to see her in 2012.

Acne S/S ’12 & Backstage

The Acne S/S ’12 show left me quite surprised, though it maintained it’s youthful coolness it had some unique pieces–for Acne. The collection had a couple 1960s party dresses, but of course it was paired with some very cool leather heeled (and fringed) sandals. Though the collection was quite different from what I imagined it would be, but Acne scored high with its originality and consistent hip style.

No, she isn’t a “professional” model. No, this isn’t a fancy editorial. But none of that takes away from the amazing photo shoot that took place. The girl is Frances Bean Cobain if you didn’t know. Cobain rings a bell, doesn’t it? Yes, she’s the daughter of the infamously troubled, yet amazingly talented lead vocalists/guitarists of Nirvana and Hole–Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love. I personally admire both of her parents talented endeavors thus I am automatically intrigued about the person she is and will become.

Finally, I’m posting my very own images of my personal style. It’s actually simplified a lot more than usual because the day that these pictures were taken, a massive heat wave began to hit! It was well over 100°F here and it felt like I was in an inferno. Now, I am absolutely no model and it was quite awkward getting adjusted to taking pictures of my outfits, but here it is!

FLOWERS FOR ZOE in Wonderland Magazine

Zoe Kravitz is on the rise of stardom as she starred in this year’s blockbuster hit, X-Men: First Class, and she’s slowly starting to capture more of America’s attention. Before she hit theaters this year, she wasn’t unknown to those who pay attention to more underground style. I adore her personal style and every time I see a picture of her I can’t help but to gush about it!

Zoe also takes after her father, Lenny Kravitz, as she has great potential musically. Her band, Elevator Fight, is listed as afropunk (whatever the fucking means) and I love the music. For some reason, I suspect Zoe and the band to be featured in Nylon Magazine some time soon. At the end of the post there will be one of my personal favorite’s of theirs and it’s worth checking out.

Introduction to Street Style

Street Style

The concept of creating a Street Style portion of my blog isn’t a new concept, but I think that people don’t realize one thing about style which is that it’s everywhere. You don’t have to live in New York, California, Milan or any state that’s deemed fashionable to see fashionable people. Though that seems like an obvious thought, I’ve only come to reach that idea in recent times. This thought hit me one day when I was sitting alone in a cafe and began to see the beauty and uniqueness in every style around me. Simply because I’m currently located in St. Louis doesn’t mean that I’m prohibited from seeing the uniqueness in everyone’s style here. The fact that I don’t live in one of the fashion capitals of the world makes it a little more interesting because I have to look a little deeper into someone’s style and see the complexity that lies behind it. A person doesn’t necessarily have to be a ‘showstopper’ with their outfit for it to be just as complex and breathtaking.

This is a definite up and coming project as I’m already actively starting it!

Oh, and I will also start posting images of my personal style. Yes, I know I’ve said that a lot lately but I continue to put it off! It will happen–soon. Hopefully.

S/S Trend ’11 – Swimwear

I need to keep this short and sweet because with this new trend for swimwear this season, I know that I’m going to start gushing and rambling. The trend that I’ve seen a few designers release this season is digitally printed swimwear. I love it! One of my favorites definitely have to be We are Handsome and the pictures of their most recent collect can be seen below. Rihanna also seems to also be a fan of their swimwear as she can be seen here wearing it.

Besides the crochet trend that can be seen everywhere this spring and summer, I say that this is definitely more unique and fewer are going to be willing to rock it.

Saint Augustine Academy S/S ’11

Wow, I don’t even know where to begin with the Saint Augustine Academy S/S 2011 show. There was so much intriguing things going on that me that I knew after spending several minutes on each photo as I browsed the collection that it was a must have on Les Coutures. The clothing for women was stylish and almost standard in comparison to the schizophrenic menswear ensembles. The entire show had a mixture of a little punk, western, and 70s hippie combination–sounds odd right? But I thought that somehow the designer, Alvan Manalo, managed to pull it off. I doubt the pictures below do the collection actual justice, so you can see all of it here. Definitely leave a comment below about what you think of this Spring/Summer ’11/12 show.

RAFW – Zimmerman S/S ’11

Browsing the Fashionising website is definitely not out of the ordinary for me and I was definitely looking for some beautiful clothing from RAFW pictures and I found one. A brand that I had never heard prior definitely caught my attention instantly with the beautifully crafted collection. The designers are Simone and Nicky Zimmerman and they are known for their intricate designs that create a mix of casual clothing with elegance. Surprisingly to me I hadn’t been introduced to Zimmerman before, but I might be hooked for life!
